The Maldives Islands are famous for the huge abundance of fish life that lives in its waters or migrates through them. It is one of the world's largest suppliers of tuna for canning and fresh yellow fin tuna for sashimi or for cooking but it is also home to large quantities of grouper, snapper, marlin, sailfish, swordfish and much more.

All fish from the Maldives are rod caught or caught on hand lines in a traditional way that has not changed for a thousand years and which has preserved the fish stock naturally. These methods are sustained and encouraged by the 21st century Fisheries Ministry where Maldivian marine biologists with the latest knowledge at their finger tips have discovered that the old ways are still the best.

The people of Maldives are very peaceful - unless someone disturbs their fishing grounds. The waters are scanned on a 24 hour basis by advanced radar systems and predator fishing fleets from other nations with less ethical methods are rounded up swiftly by fast armed patrol boats and dispatched or arrested without compunction.
